What Is Superflex? The Format That Changed Dynasty Football
Dynasty Glossary · By Elliot — Founder, Dynasty Dealer · Published 2026-06-11
Superflex is a fantasy football lineup format with a flex position that can start a quarterback in addition to the standard QB slot. Because teams can start two QBs, quarterback demand roughly doubles — turning QBs from an afterthought into the most valuable assets in the format. Superflex is now the dominant dynasty format: nearly three-quarters of real dynasty trades happen in superflex leagues.
Why superflex changes everything
In 1QB leagues, only twelve quarterbacks start league-wide and the position is always available. In superflex, up to twenty-four start — more than the number of stable NFL starters — so startable QBs become genuinely scarce. Elite quarterbacks become top-five overall dynasty assets, and even bridge-level veterans hold real value because a missing QB is an unfillable lineup hole.
Pricing the format correctly
The most expensive superflex mistake is using 1QB values in a superflex league (or vice versa) — the same quarterback can be multiple tiers apart between formats. Our live QB tier guide shows the current superflex board, and the trade calculator applies your league’s actual format to every deal.
Is superflex the same as 2QB?
Nearly — 2QB leagues require starting two quarterbacks, while superflex makes the second one optional. In practice values are similar, with 2QB slightly more QB-scarce because there’s no fallback to a skill player.
Should my dynasty league use superflex?
If you’re starting a new league, yes — it’s where the format has converged, it makes more of the player pool relevant, and most of the real trade market prices in superflex terms.
